A downloadable Game Engine for Windows

Dynami (pronounced as "Dinami")  is a Simple 2D Game Engine scriptable in Python.

Why use Dynami?

The main focus os Dynami is to provide a simple, lightweight and intuitive tool for artist and indie game devs to make their own 2D video games. It mainly aims solo and fast development for Game Jams, prototypes and so on. But it can be extended to entire complete Steam-ready projects.

That means:

  • Fast iteration and prototyping: There is no project manager and no loading splash screens (at all). You can literally open Dynami and immediatly start making a new game, a test or load a project if you want, of course.
  • Single-file projects: Dynami will not create 8795 folders and three thousand files in our disk for each project you made. You can literally have a small folder for all your games at once. It's a single save file, no matter what.
  • No fancy and over engineered tools: This is NOT a 20GiB game engine full of fancy tools that you'll never use. If you open a screenshot of the engine, you'll pretty much see everything it has to offer. It's simple, easy to learn and still have everything you need to make your games.
  • Easy to script and iterate: We don't like to wait and that also includes compilation time. In Dynami, you can write all your code in Python, which is one of the simplest and most popular languages out there.

And a bonus topic:

  • Don't want to code? No problem: a visual scripting alternative is coming!

Dynami was originally made in 30 hours from scratch using C++. You can follow along its development here:

Future Roadmap

The main objective of this engine is to be self sustainable over time: it doesn't need to have an RTX, ray tracer, over engineered rendered in the future, because people enjoy simple 2D games and if you want to go fancy, of course you can do it 100% with your art assets. In other words, if there is a solid foundation for the engine, you can plan to use it for years with no problems.

But I still plan to add (very soon) some key tooling for the engine:

  • Code without coding: As mentioned, I'm working on a simple visual scripting alternative for Dynami. It will be simple, intuitive (no need to watch a tutorial to learn it) and versatile enough for you to create most things you want to. I'm making it inspired on BGE's Logic Bricks and Construct2 programming.
  • Animation tools: Right now there is no easy way to make animated sprites. I'm working on that!
  • Map editing tools: You can create any map you want in the engine already. But if you're working on a tile based one, you may want to have some sort of tool to easily place the correct tiles. It's coming as well!
